Trigger one

Last week we had the first PBL session and got the first trigger .
The trigger was about Hanne who is becoming a student after working in a company permanently. She was wondering whether she has enough motivation to do the school after work life and if it is worth the effort and will benefit her afterwards.

After braisntorming a while we decided that our core question is
”If I educate myself will it actually help me to get a job in a global environment”. After that we were working on different point of views about motivation, globalization, higher education and doubt concerning it.Those were also our key words to look into the subject

Our core questions are:
How to get motivation/ hot ot motivate yourself?
How to become a global person?
Pros and cons of higher education.

Globalization is obvious these days and it has an effect on lot of people work. At Hannes case we were thinking how much the Globba degree widens her employability in the future versus her current postition at work.

In the field changes can be fast and one needs to be ready to act quickly. In Future Work Skills 2020 article there are presented six drivers of change which of one is globally connected world. It says that globalization is an long-term trend toward greater exchanges and integration across geographic borders. And this does not mean anymore the monopoly of western countiries in Europe and US. Developing countries like India and China are innovation in more faster pace and by that pace the others wont be able to keep up. On the other hand the headquarters of companies are struggling to produce products that suit the needs of hole differrent category of people. As if usually the headquarters might not be at the same place or continent as the production.(Institute for the Future for Apollo Research Institute, 2011,5.)

So in the future the cross cultural competency i.e. ability to operate in different cultural settings will be very important says the article. The article refers to a research which says that nowdays what makes a group intelligent is its diversity of knowlege from different ages, skills, disciplines, and working and thinking styles. That should encourage us all from different interests and backgrounds to dare to try something new because you never now what you give to others aswell.( Institute for the Future for Apollo Research Institute, 2011, 9)

In Hannes case I think these are important points because she was thinking if the school would be worth the effort after already working on a good job. These  can also be included in the motivation factors cause after the degree it opens so many new doors compared to the current situation. I think in the future we are assumed to be fast learners and quickly adaptable in our working environment

In the motaivations point of view we can look for excample Maslows motivation theory which is commonly known. The theorys idea is that if the basic needs are satisfied then you are able to go further up the pyramid. The first four starting from the bottom are pshycological-, safety-, love and bellonging- and esteem. Then comes the self-actualization part which covers for example education, job and hobbies. (Saul McLeod, 2007.)At Hannes case the self-actualization part is to complete her need to study and improve her personal skills and to proceed at work.
